TONGE, Gervase Woodhouse Bursall: Email from Stephen Tonge to other Tonge researcher regarding Tonge family from Nottingham and Lincoln, from early 1700's to 1860's. 
 
Have had a quick look on the IGI for the people you have mentioned.  Robert Tonge baptised in Finsbury in 1817 can quite easily be traced back several generations.  The name Gervace is unusual, and the inclusion of the maiden names of Bursall and Woodhouse makes it pretty conclusive that we have got the right people.
 
The family are well established in Misterton, Nottingham, where they had been since at least the mid-1600's.  This particular branch of the family favoured the names Gervace and Daniel at this time.
 

I have drawn up an outline descent chart.  I think most of this is probably correct - certainly from generation three and downwards.  Between one and three it is more tentative and would need further research.  For further details of exact birth and marriage dates / places, download one of these files:
